The Retirement Gift

On Tuesday we had the BEST time surprising my dad with an early retirement gift (if you can call it early - he only has about 8 days of work left). Several years ago, my dad lost his best buddy in the whole world - a golden retriever named Duke - who had provided my dad with 13 years of devoted friendship. Wish I had a digital picture of him that I could post. We all still miss him.

Anyway, ever since saying goodbye to Duke, my dad has debated getting another golden retriever. With retirement right around the corner, my brother, sister and I decided to make the decision for him, and got him a sweet baby girl (we got the o.k. from my mom first, of course). We brought her to him on Tuesday evening and they are a match made in heaven. My dad was just like a kid, it was so fun to see him so happy. She is unnamed so far - if you have any good ideas, let me know! She is such a snuggle bunny, is very mellow, she sleeps through the night, and I'm sure she will live the most spoiled life with my mom and dad who are totally doting doggy parents.
